The company Boston Dynamics published on the Internet a video clip with the “sporting achievements” of the latest version of its upright robot Atlas. The new model jumps over obstacles without any problems, it just lands and performs a beautiful back flip.
For Boston Dynamics, the last week turned out to be loaded, judging by the number of published novelties and the degree of their complexity. The latest modification of the robot Atlas radically differs not only from the past, but from all existing humanoid machines of our time. The robot dropped the shackles of the earth’s gravity – now it perfectly keeps the balance in the jump and moves even not smoothly, but boldly. It’s like a challenge .
At the same time, Atlas operates autonomously, carries the source of energy itself, chooses the algorithm for passing the path itself, and corrects the errors themselves – this is seen on the slow motion of the video. The movements of the robot are not at all ideal, and in Boston Dynamics they did not become cunning, but showed several unsuccessful takes. Obviously, Atlas used machine learning to learn how to perform the tricks that he eventually showed.
The video is of an advertising and demonstration nature and does not disclose details about the new Atlas modification, the company itself also refrains from commenting. Perhaps we were just shown success in mastering robotic jumps when using two legs. Or was it about the equilibrium module? We learn with time.
