Epson has announced the release of a multi-copter control simulator in augmented reality. It is designed for novice pilots who are sorely lacking the feeling of a real flight, in order to stop splitting expensive cars on the walls. It’s not so much entertainment, as a training manual with strict performance criteria.
Simulation of the drone is created with the help of Moverio’s augmented reality glasses, based on the real DJI Mavic Pro device, whose behavior is recreated in digital format. It is necessary to take in the hands of the real control panel of the copter, and the viewing angle of the simulation is only 23 degrees – you need to turn your head and actively participate in the process. Which is the goal of the project.
The virtual drone behaves in the same way as the real one, the response of the controls to the user’s actions is identical. This means that at a large distance you can easily calculate the height or distance to the wall and “break” the car. For training exercises are offered for spatial orientation: collect rings suspended in the air, fly through a labyrinth, etc.
The main difference between the novelty and the typical simulations on the smartphone’s screen is that it simulates the flight of a dron in the virtual space, and here the real-world control of the device is recreated. This gives pilots completely different skills, plus no one will complain that they are tired of the noise of your toy. The reality is augmented – this means that you can launch your multicopter anywhere, without the risk that it will be carried away by the wind or you will be arrested by the police.
