The new electric car BMW was named “Phoenix”. In honor of the very mythical bird that has the gift of self-destruct and reborn. And this electric car has already set a world record for machines made from recycled materials.
The “Phoenix” electric car of BMW is 90% composed of the recycled components of other cars, so the cost of its construction was only $ 13000 (it’s twice cheaper than the cheapest Tesla model). It is capable of driving one battery charge 1600 km, which is a quarter more than the previous record for cars with electric power plant.
The sale of Phoenix will not arrive very soon, if at all. The purpose of its creation is different – BMW wants to take a dominant position in the hybrid recycling industry. First of all, on the direction of processing of electronic waste, as the fastest growing type of garbage in the world. After all, the potential of this business is colossal, but investors want to see a concrete example.
Perhaps, mankind does not really need ” garbage machines “, but it is vitally important for us to learn how to extract maximum resources from electronic waste. Because it is more difficult to extract rare materials, and to disassemble and recycle the battery to get nickel and cobalt is not so difficult as it was yesterday. And Phoenix from BMW demonstrates that this is only the beginning.
