The main reason for the appearance of hurricanes is the heating of ocean water in the tropics, and in 2017 it showed that the intensity of this process increased many times. From the rise in the temperature of the atmosphere, corals are dying, glaciers are melting and monstrous forest fires are flaring up. Scientists from the University of Bedfordshire (UK) believe that mankind is the time to engage in aggressive geoengineering.
As an initial step to change the conditions on the planet Earth, they suggest “mute” the sun’s glow, reduce the amount of radiation received from the star. For this, it is necessary to create a “nuclear winter” in miniature – to saturate the upper atmosphere with aerosols based on sulfur dioxide. The substance will reflect some of the sun’s rays back into space and the heating of the troposphere will slow down.
On the technical side of the task, the implementation of the project, there is no question yet – everything is limited to computer modeling. And it shows that the ocean not only will not overheat, but even cool slightly, which will reduce the number of hurricanes. And this will give the corals more time to recover, but other aspects of the temperature drops on the planet are miscalculated with great difficulty.
Geoengineering can be the subject of serious discussions in scientific circles of the 21st century. On the one hand, the influence of man on the climate is already indisputable and it is high time for this process to give at least some order. And on the other hand, almost all of them are unanimous in that if they make some global changes, then it will be virtually impossible to reverse their consequences . So the proverb about “seven times measure, one cut” in the case of impacts on the scale of the planet becomes more urgent than ever .
