To make the combat drones successful and effective, it does not have to be large-sized. The company-manufacturer Textron positions its offspring as a “killer” and tactical, and strategic UAVs among those that are in the arsenal of NATO countries. The newest, most promising platform is neither more nor less.
Nightwarden is designed according to the “combined wing” scheme, has an original triangular tail steering wheel and a single pushing motor. Water cooling, minimum noise level and high power – the drone can move at a speed of 166 km / h for 15 hours. The maximum range is 1100 km, and the carrying capacity is 59 kg.
According to an impressive number of signs, the new Nightwarden is a modeled Shadow M2 from 2012. Among the main innovations support the package of options SATCOM, fully automated take-off and landing, including emergency conditions, multifunctionality. Two cargo compartments can be placed as ammunition boxes for discharge in the desired area, as well as electronic combat weapons or communication systems.
The drone Nightwarden has already flown 400 hours of training flights in Europe, the Middle East and the Pacific, having worked off the takeoff and landing even in the open field, as well as using a parachute. This machine does not have a “favorite” region or type of work, it is intended to become a flexible component of the network centric warfare hardware and be used as widely as the customer wishes. At least, it’s promised in Textron.
